On August 8, Pat Baker Park in Reno, Nevada, was filled with smiles, excitement, and a strong spirit of community as families gathered for the Back to School Blessing. The free event was organized by Johnnice Burton and hosted by Second Baptist Church and the Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS).

The event was created to help children from kindergarten through 12th grade feel prepared, encouraged, and supported as they get ready to begin a new school year. Families were welcomed into a warm and friendly space where students could receive free backpacks, school supplies, and other helpful items.

For many children, getting a new backpack and school supplies is an important part of starting the school year with confidence. At the Back to School Blessing, students were able to choose from colorful backpacks and receive supplies that will help them in the classroom. From notebooks and pencils to other school essentials, the event made sure children had tools they could use as they stepped into a new year of learning.

In addition to school supplies, girls ages 12 and up were also given beauty bags filled with hygiene products. These bags were a thoughtful part of the event, helping young girls feel cared for, confident, and ready for school. The beauty bags showed that the event was not only about giving supplies, but also about supporting the whole child.

All Things New Boutique was also represented at the event by Amanda Refuge.
